Frequently asked questions

Do I need to apply for AADL funding before buying equipment?Yes. For AADL you must be assessed and authorized before you buy, because AADL does not normally refund equipment purchased before approval. Private insurance and Blue Cross vary by plan, so confirm coverage before you pay either way.
Is 1st AB Med Supplies an AADL-approved vendor?Yes. We are an AADL and NIHB approved vendor serving Edmonton and Northern Alberta from five locations, so authorized clients can have approved items supplied through the proper process.
Can I rent instead of buying?Yes. Rentals are ideal for short-term needs such as recovery after surgery, a visiting family member, or while you wait on funding. For long-term needs, buying or applying for AADL funding is usually better value.
Does Alberta help seniors with equipment costs? It can. Seniors may have access to AADL, Special Needs Assistance for Seniors, Alberta Blue Cross, and other supports. The best move is to check eligibility before buying so you do not miss help you qualify for.
Can you direct bill my insurance? It depends on the item, your plan, and the provider setup. For AADL we handle the paperwork so you pay only your share; for private plans we provide the receipts and product details you need to claim. Ask our team before purchasing.
